What are the special characteristics of a magnet system?
Important characteristics of magnet systems
PrincipleMagnet systems consist of one or several magnets mounted on a steel plate. In small magnet systems, a single multipolar magnet is installed, and four to twelve magnets in larger magnet systems. On the steel plate, the magnets are arranged with alternating poles. Thanks to this design, the adhesive forces of the magnets are bundled on one side of the system. This positively affects the overall adhesive force, which increases as a result.

Displacement forceOur magnet systems have a white or black rubber coating made of TPE synthetics (thermoplastic elastomers). This rubber coating increases the displacement force. With the displacement force, the load force acts parallel to the contact surface. This is particularly important when you want to attach items to a wall in combination with hooks, handles or eyelets. Therefore, when purchasing magnet systems, check whether the indicated displacement force is suitable for the intended use.
Adhesive forceWith magnet systems, the full adhesive force is achieved when the ferromagnetic counterpart is smooth, of sufficient thickness and makes direct and full flush contact. Due to their design, magnet systems already start to lose part of their adhesive force at a small distance from the ferromagnetic surface.
Outdoor useRubberised magnet systems are generally better suited for outdoor applications than standard pot magnets. However, you can only use magnet systems outdoors to a limited extent:
- Sun exposure: Avoid direct sunlight over an extended period. UV radiation causes the rubber to become brittle. In addition, the white rubber coating will turn yellowish over time.
- Corrosion on the magnet: Though the rubber coating protects the neodymium magnets from splashes and moisture, it does not seal the magnets hermetically and they can rust if water penetrates the rubber coating. Due to the rust, the neodymium magnet will lose its strength after a while.
- Rust on the accessories: If used outdoors for a long time, rust can form on the screw socket, the internal thread or the threaded stud. The accessories, such as hooks or eyelets, are not made of stainless steel and can quickly develop a rust film.

Differences between magnets systems and pot magnets
StructureMagnet systems consist of one or more small neodymium disc magnets, mounted on a steel plate with alternating poles. This increases the adhesive force. Pot magnets, on the other hand, are individual neodymium magnets embedded in a steel pot. Here, the steel pot increases the adhesive force of the magnet. Rubber coatingThe rubber coating not only increases the load capacity in shear direction (see above) but also protects delicate surfaces from scratches. Thanks to the white or black colouring, the rubberised magnet systems can be used very discreetly.
